Maydianne Andrad

Maydianne Andrade is a University Professor at the University of Toronto. Her research at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) examines links between reproductive behaviours and plastic gene expression, using widow spiders as models. Professor Andrade has received national and international research awards, and has served as Vice Dean Faculty Affairs and Equity and as Acting Dean at UTSC. She is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and sits on the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Council of Canadian Academies. As co-founder and President of the Canadian Black Scientists Network, she leads a national coalition supporting Black inclusion in STEM. In 2016 she founded the Toronto Initiative for Diversity & Excellence, a group faculty at the University of Toronto who provide workshops on increasing inclusion in the academy. In 2020 she received the Ludwik and Estelle Jus Memorial Human Rights Prize for this work.
