Alexandra McSween

Alex McSween completed her MSc in 2021 at uOttawa with a focus on category theory and representation theory. Her thesis was nominated for the Commission on graduate studies in sciences prize. Alex currently works as a Data Scientist at Statistics Canada with a focus on modernization and bringing open-source software to the agency. Previously she worked in IT and project management at the Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) where she focused on increasing  girls’ participation in high school math competitions. As an undergraduate Alex co-founded the uOttawa women in math. As president Alex organised events for the community such as career talks, panels and student networking events. In 2021 Alex gave a keynote presentation for Connecting Women in Math Across Canada at the CMS annual summer meeting. Currently Alex is passionate about fair treatment of women in the workplace and encouraging women to take leading roles in the data science community.
