Catherine Mavriplis

Catherine Mavriplis is Full Professor of Mechanical Engineering at University of Ottawa where she works on advanced numerical methods for aerodynamics simulations. Dr. Mavriplis held the NSERC Chair for Women in Science and Engineering from 2011 to 2021, a program that aims to recruit, retain and advance women to leadership. For her work in advancing women in Canada and the US, she has been awarded the Engineers Canada Award for the Support of Women in the Engineering Profession and the Women in Engineering ProActive Network (WEPAN) Educator's Award. She has been the President of the Computational Fluid Dynamics Society of Canada and sat on the Council of the Canadian Aeronautics and Space Institute. Catherine was a graduate student at MIT in the 1980s and is looking forward to connecting with Gioia’s experience there.
