Navajo Math Circles
All Things Being Equal: A Constellation of Mathematicians - 4 Part Series
Join us in celebrating the start of our second year of All Things Being Equal! We're thrilled to begin with a 4 part series of discussions of the films of George Csicsery. We became starry eyed for his films last season when he joined us to discuss his documentary Julia Robinson and Hilbert's 10th Problem.
Part 3 of our series will focus on George's documentary Navajo Math Circles.
Navajo Math Circles is a one-hour film that is documenting the meeting of two worlds: that of some of the country’s most accomplished mathematicians and math educators, with the children and teachers in the underserved, largely rural Navajo educational system. Math itself is a cross-cultural language, and the film is designed to inspire cross-cultural understanding on multiple levels.

All Things Being Equal: Journeys of Black Mathematicians
All Things Being Equal: A Constellation of Mathematicians - 4 Part Series
Join us in celebrating the start of our second year of All Things Being Equal! We're thrilled to begin with a 4 part series of discussions of the films of George Csicsery. We became starry eyed for his films last season when he joined us to discuss his documentary Julia Robinson and Hilbert's 10th Problem.
Part 1 of our series will focus on his new duet of hour-long documentaries, Journeys of Black Mathematicians, Forging Resilience and Creating Pathways.
In addition to presenting the rich histories and compelling narratives of contemporary Black American mathematicians, the films showcase innovative educational programs in mathematics for African American students at every level, from grade school to university to postdoctoral research. Sharing a wide range of individual choices, the films adhere to the proposition that a passion for mathematics and its pursuit can by itself produce positive social change and lead to a satisfying and meaningful life.
