ABOUT THE FILM

Dear Friends, Family and Fans of Truth Values,

When I left math many years ago in the midst of my Ph.D. program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, I promised myself I would never talk about math again! I eventually found a new path in the arts, working happily for a decade giving life and breath to other writers' words and music.

Then I became captivated by bringing my own words to life, which landed me in the New York studio of the late legendary teacher and theater director Wynn Handman, where I had the immense honor of working with him on a unique new performance/writing exercise using stories from my life in math.

The result became my popular play Truth Values, which I toured to more than 50 theaters nationally, paired with more than 75 talkbacks on diversity and women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). My many adventures on tour included my alma mater M.I.T. featuring the play as part of the Institute's 150th anniversary celebration, and, with the help of my Production Manager, building me a theater space for the performance!

The generous Alfred P. Sloan foundation later offered a grant to create a companion education program to the play, “Truth Values Community,” which we launched at Columbia University, then refined at M.I.T., and were just getting started on our best touring year ever in 2020 when, well, you know the rest...

This pause gave time for reflection on new avenues for the program, including creation of a related book, and launching a campaign to create a related performance film + documentary to be paired with the unique style of talkbacks we developed in the program. This allows for even greater reach for the project, especially to underserved communities.

Please join us on this journey! The film project includes an invitation-only capture of the live show, plus opportunities to be featured on screen in the film's documentary portion. Donate today to participate in this exciting project while advancing equality for women and underrepresented minorities in STEM fields.  The show continues to be available for live bookings.

Thank you for your support, and look forward to seeing you in the screening room!
